About Soul Movement

When you put your heart into something - anything - it becomes soulful.

Yoga and Capoeira have both given and continue to give me so much in my life - much more than I could have ever imagined when I first started. As well as the more obvious benefits such as better physical strength and flexibility, they have also shown me different ways to live and interact with the world around me - improving my self-confidence, vitality and awareness. As I expanded my range of movement, I found that my comfort zones and even consciousness started to expand, positively influencing how I relate to life. I am passionate about sharing these benefits with others and this is where the concept of Soul Movement comes from.

My interest in Yoga grew out of my passion for Capoeira. I started to train Capoeira in 2002 with Mestre Marcelo Angola from Capoeira Angoleiros do Mar group. Marcelo's teaching particularly encourages students to find their own freedom and self-expression through Capoeira. I have been fortunate enough to travel and train Capoeira with a number of different teachers, but Marcelo's vision of capoeira has been my main reference point. I began teaching capoeira to cover when the normal teachers were away, and have continued studying, teaching & sharing capoeira ever since.

I started Yoga in 2006 following an injury that prevented me from doing capoeira at the time. I didn't get the same initial connection as I did with capoeira, but over time yoga has become more and more central to my way of life and it is now just as important to me as capoeira, in a complementary but also very different way. In 2015 I completed the 200-hour Zen Yoga Teacher Training course with Julian Daizan Skinner Roshi from Zenways in the beautiful Scottish Highlands. This was an incredibly inspiring course which gave me the confidence to start teaching Yoga as well as sowing the seeds for my own personal practice of Zen Buddhism and Meditation. I am registered as a Yoga Teacher with Zenways and Yoga Alliance, and I continue to study Zen Yoga with Daizan and his students when I can.

In 2015 I began to teach Yoga and Capoeira professionally and I founded Soul Movement C.I.C. (Community Interest Company) to carry out this work.
